Bike Rentals Terms & Conditions

Please note

Rental charges are calculated per calendar day. If a bicycle is picked up on one calendar day and returned on a later calendar day, the applicable rental charge will apply for each calendar day that the bicycle remains in the renter’s possession, regardless of the pickup or return time.

Rental Eligibility and Requirements

  • The renter must be at least 18 years old.
  • The renter must provide valid government-issued identification at the time of pickup.
  • The renter must sign the rental agreement, accept these Terms and Conditions, and sign the applicable cycling risk and safety acknowledgement before taking possession of the bicycle.
  • A valid credit card must be provided at the time of payment or pickup, even when the rental is paid using another payment method.
  • davélo may refuse or cancel a rental if the required identification, credit card, reservation deposit or signed documentation is not provided.

Reservation Deposit and Cancellation Policy

  • A 10% reservation deposit is required to reserve the bicycle.
  • The reservation deposit will be applied toward the total rental cost.
  • The reservation deposit is a booking payment. It is not a security deposit against theft, loss, damage or non-return of the bicycle.
  • The reservation deposit is fully refundable if the reservation is cancelled at least seven calendar days before the scheduled reservation date.
  • If a reservation is cancelled less than seven calendar days before the scheduled reservation date, davélo may retain the reservation deposit unless otherwise required by applicable law.
  • If davélo must cancel a reservation because of bicycle availability, safety concerns, mechanical issues or another circumstance outside the customer’s control, the reservation deposit will be refunded.

Rental Period and Charges

  • A rental day means one calendar day, from store opening to store closing. Overnight use is not included in a single-day rental.
  • If the bicycle is picked up on one day and returned the following day, it is considered a two-day rental, regardless of the pickup time.
  • Rental rates vary by bicycle and are confirmed at the time of booking.
  • The renter is responsible for reviewing the rental dates, bicycle model and price before confirming the reservation.
  • Any extension of the rental period must be approved by davélo before the original return deadline. Additional rental charges will apply.
  • The renter remains responsible for the bicycle until it has been returned directly to davélo during business hours and accepted by a davélo employee.

Included Equipment

  • The rental may include a helmet, bell, two bottle cages, lights, a saddle bag containing one spare tube, two tire levers, one CO₂ cartridge and inflator, and a lock.
  • The equipment included with a particular rental will be confirmed at pickup.
  • All included equipment must be returned with the bicycle in substantially the same condition in which it was provided, subject to reasonable wear resulting from normal and proper use.
  • Rental bicycles are normally equipped with flat pedals. LOOK, Shimano SPD-SL or Shimano SPD pedals may be available for an additional daily charge.
  • The renter must verify that all requested equipment is present before leaving davélo and must immediately report any pre-existing damage or missing equipment.

Use and Care of the Bicycle

  • The renter must use the bicycle and all included equipment carefully, responsibly and only for their intended purposes.
  • The renter must follow all instructions provided by davélo concerning the fitting, operation, transportation, storage and security of the bicycle.
  • The renter must comply with all applicable traffic laws and regulations.
  • The renter must not use the bicycle while impaired by alcohol, cannabis, medication or any other substance or condition that may affect their ability to ride safely.
  • The renter must not use the bicycle for racing, stunts, jumps, commercial deliveries or any activity for which the bicycle was not designed unless davélo has provided prior written authorization.
  • The renter must not modify, disassemble or attempt to repair the bicycle or its components without authorization from davélo.
  • The renter must not lend, transfer or permit another person to use the bicycle without prior authorization from davélo.
  • The renter must immediately stop using the bicycle and contact davélo if the bicycle becomes unsafe, damaged or mechanically defective.

Security and Theft Prevention

  • The renter must take all reasonable precautions to prevent the bicycle and included equipment from being lost, stolen or damaged.
  • The bicycle must not be left unlocked or unsecured.
  • When the bicycle is not being ridden, it must be secured to a suitable fixed object using the lock provided by davélo or another lock approved by davélo.
  • The lock provided with the rental is intended as a deterrent and does not guarantee protection against theft. Professional thieves may compromise most bicycle locks.
  • The bicycle must be stored indoors overnight. It must not be left outside overnight, in an unlocked vehicle or attached to a vehicle while unattended.
  • The renter should not leave the bicycle unattended for extended periods, even when it is locked.
  • The renter must not leave removable equipment, including lights, accessories or repair equipment, unsecured or unattended.

Accidents, Theft, Loss and Damage

  • Any accident, theft, loss or significant damage must be reported to davélo immediately.
  • In the event of theft, the renter must promptly report the theft to the police, obtain a police report number and provide davélo with all relevant information and documentation.
  • The renter must cooperate with davélo, the police, insurers, payment processors and other relevant parties in connection with any investigation or recovery process.
  • Rental bicycles and included equipment are not insured by davélo against theft, loss or damage while in the renter’s possession.
  • The renter is responsible for loss or damage affecting the bicycle or included equipment while it is in their possession, except where the renter demonstrates that the loss or damage was not caused by their fault or by the fault of a person whom they permitted to use or access the bicycle.
  • The renter is not responsible for reasonable wear resulting from normal and proper use or for damage identified and documented before the rental began.

Repair and Replacement Charges

  • For repairable damage, the renter may be charged the reasonable current retail cost of the same or equivalent replacement parts, labour at davélo’s regular service rate and any other reasonable expenses directly required to inspect, diagnose and complete the repair.
  • For a bicycle or item of equipment that is lost, stolen, destroyed, not returned or damaged beyond reasonable repair, the renter may be charged its current replacement value.
  • Current replacement value means the reasonable cost, at the time of the loss, of replacing the bicycle or equipment with the same item or an item of substantially equivalent type, specifications, age and condition, taking availability into account.
  • Any amount charged will be based on davélo’s reasonable and documented loss.
  • Any applicable salvage value, recovered property, warranty coverage, insurance proceeds or other recovery will be deducted from the amount owing where applicable.
  • davélo will provide the renter with an itemized statement describing any damage, missing equipment, replacement cost, parts, labour or other amount charged under these Terms and Conditions.

Credit Card Requirement and Authorization

  • A valid credit card must be provided at the time of payment or pickup and must remain valid throughout the rental period.
  • The renter authorizes davélo to securely save the credit card payment method through its payment processor.
  • davélo does not manually record or retain the renter’s complete credit card number or security code.
  • The saved payment method may remain on file throughout the rental and for up to 30 days following the return of the bicycle.
  • The saved payment method is retained to allow davélo to inspect the bicycle and equipment and settle amounts properly owing under these Terms and Conditions.
  • The renter authorizes davélo to charge the saved payment method for unpaid rental charges, approved rental extensions, disclosed late-return charges, missing equipment, repairable damage and the documented replacement value of a bicycle or item of equipment that is lost, stolen, destroyed or not returned.
  • davélo will provide the renter with an itemized receipt or statement for any charge made to the saved payment method.
  • Saving a payment method does not limit the renter’s right to question or contest a charge.
  • The saved payment method will be removed from the renter’s customer profile no later than 30 days following the return of the bicycle.

Return and Inspection

  • The bicycle and all included equipment must be returned to davélo by the agreed return date and time.
  • The renter must return the bicycle directly to a davélo employee during business hours unless another return arrangement has been approved in advance.
  • Leaving the bicycle outside the store or with another person does not constitute a completed return.
  • davélo may inspect the bicycle and included equipment at the time of return and may conduct a further inspection when damage or a mechanical issue is not immediately apparent.
  • The renter remains responsible for unpaid amounts, missing equipment and damage discovered during a reasonable inspection following the return.

Cycling Risk and Safety Acknowledgement

Cycling involves inherent risks. Before taking possession of a rental bicycle, the renter must review and sign davélo’s separate Cycling Risk Acknowledgement, Safety Agreement and Limited Indemnity. The bicycle will not be released until the required document has been signed.

Acceptance

By reserving or renting a bicycle, the renter confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions. The renter also confirms at pickup that the bicycle and included equipment were received in satisfactory condition, except for any condition or damage identified in writing before departure.
